Every week the Town Council sends the Society a list of the planning applications that have been received for consideration by the Town Council. Every planning application is reviewed (with the exception of applications dealing with trees as that is something the Town Council’s Tree Warden deals with), and we make comments whether supporting, making no comment or objecting directly onto the District Council’s planning website with a copy to the Town Council.
This is currently managed by one volunteer so we are looking for volunteers to help with this task - see our Get Involved page. Help us protect the Broadstairs you love.
The area is blessed with four Conservation Areas - Broadstairs, St. Peter's, Reading Street and Kingsgate and planning applications within those Conservation Areas are looked at especially closely to ensure that as it is within an area of special architectural or historic interest, the planning application does not unduly alter the character of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance.
There are also five areas containing heritage assets – Callis Court Road, Kingsgate Avenue, North Foreland, Park Avenue, South Cliff Parade and Western Esplanade – that the Town Council recognise possess certain characteristics meriting special recognition. The areas were audited by a number volunteers and the results formed the basis of background documents that led to the development of Design Guidelines that the Town Council and the District Council have regard to whenever they consider planning applications.
In addition a number of volunteers are taking up to date photographs of the Grade II Listed Buildings in the area which will be presented to the Town and District Councils and Historic England on completion.
We will be loading a gallery of listed buildings here.
