The Broadstairs Society

The Broadstairs Society was founded in 1964 with the aim of keeping the look and feel of the Broadstairs we all love whilst embracing positive changes.

We are members of The Campaign to Protect Rural England, The British Association for Local History and work with Historic England to catalogue listed buildings.

The Society is represented on relevant committees of the Town Council and the District Council and seeks to ensure that the needs and wishes of Broadstairs & St Peter's communities are fully considered.

The Society works with the Town Council and District Council and seeks to ensure that the needs and wishes of Broadstairs & St Peter's communities are fully considered.

How do we do that?

  • Campaign to influence policies from Town, District and County Councils
  • Review and influence planning applications
  • Reviews and updates the records of protected listed buildings held by Historic England
  • Work with the Town Council to review locally listed buildings to ensure they are considered in future changes (Neighbourhood Development Plan)
  • Issue Civic Awards to community projects or buildings that celebrate the look and feel of Broadstairs
  • Provide and maintain the 'Seven Bays of Broadstairs' leaflet that describes our beautiful coastline, its bays and its history

Our Patron is Sir Alistair Hunter KCMG, DL.

The Broadstairs Society is Grant-aided by Broadstairs & St Peter's Town Council.
